My First Quillo

This one is number 9 of 9 Quillo's that I made in 2010 - except I haven't taken a photo of it yet - so you'll have to wait... We were going to make a quillo as part of the curriculum at a Textiles class but I went ahead of the class and made this one after looking at what others had previously made. However, a few week's later, we were shown the teacher's way of making a quillo which spurred me on to make one for my nieces and nephews for Christmas.
So have a look at the other 8!
And at long last - the photo!!! It was made from a Charm Pack with coordinating fabrics for the borders.

My Second Quillo

Quillo number 8 of 9.
Yep! After making a heap of quillo's for other people, I decided to make a couple for myself...
A couple of girls at the Quilting Club to which I belong showed us this block & I was quite taken with it. It looks absolutely fabulous as a quilt and I decided to just make the one block & use it as the pillow of my quillo!!!
Size: 56" x 64" (142cm x 188cm)

Will's Quillo

This is number 7 of 9 quillo's...
Will is 11 year's old & I thought these colours would suit him - and the fact that his quillo has been on his bed since he received it is testament to it, I reckon...

Rachel's Quillo

This is number 6 of 9 Quillo's.
If Jess is our "pink girl" then Rachel is our "blue girl". From a very young age, she's not budged from blue being her favourite colour. Oh! And Rachel is 13 years old.
I think I used something like 16 different fabrics to make up Rachel's quillo - again - it was fun doing it. And can you see the pattern in the quilt? You've really gotta look but it's there!!! And the pillow is below, to finish it off...

Krystal's Quillo

This is number 5 of 9 quillo's - and was made for a very special girl at our Church who's had a tough life and what is she - just 9 years of age. I can tell you - she loves it!!!
And I thought the fabrics were fun and happy.

Jessica's Quillo

Number 4 of 9...
Jess, aged 11, is our "pink girl" and so just about everything I make for her is pink. However, I always double check with her Mum just in case she's changed colours since the last time, but not so far...
The above quilt of the quillo is using the Friendship Star block. I love it's simplicity but effectiveness. And of course, you can see the pillow below, once it's all folded away.

Brianna's Quillo

This is number 3 of 9 Quillo's:
Brianna is 9 years old and loves all colours especially pinks, blues, greens and yellows - so these colours seemed a perfect fit for her - and I like daisies!!! Above is the quilt of the quillo...
and above here is the pillow part of the project.

Brad's Quillo

This is number 2 of 9 quillo's...
As before, above is the quillo and below is the pillow. This quillo was made for a 21-yo man, so I chose strong Japanese fabrics, hoping he liked them...

Amy's Quillo

This is 1 of 9 Quillo's I made in 2011...

Above is the quillo itself - Amy's favourite colours are bright pink, purple and lime green - sounds about right for a bright and sparkly 16 year old, doesn't it - so I was thrilled when I found this range of fabrics that absolutely ticked all the right boxes.
... and this is the "pillow" part of the quillo. It's a pocket on the reverse side that the quilt folds into, to create a cushion or pillow - hence the name 'quillo'. The block itself is called "a 10-minute block" and the name is correct, because you can make each block in 10 minutes, then you have to stitch them together and do all the other things necessary to complete the project. The 'pillow' is one block!
